Dr. Robert L. Siegrist, Class of 1968. Following his graduation from high school, Bob earned his B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering (High Honors, 1972; 1975) and his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (1986) at the University of Wisconsin. He has held appointments as a Research Staff member, College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin (‘75-’84); Senior Engineer and Project Manager, Ayres Associates, Inc. (‘86-’90); Visiting Senior Scientist, Agricultural University of Norway (‘88-’89); Group Leader for Environmental Engineering, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (‘90-’94); and Professor and Director, Environmental Science and Engineering, Colorado School of Mines (’95 to date). During his career, Bob has had an active research program with a primary focus on the reclamation of water and wastewater and remediation of contaminated soil and ground water. During his career, he has acquired and managed over $10M in funding from state, federal, and international agencies, as well as private industry in the USA and abroad. He has published the results of his work in a reference book, 50 journal articles and more than 150 conference proceedings and reports. He is a registered professional engineer and has been active on professional committees and as a technical expert for state and federal agencies in the USA, Canada, Scandinavia, Europe, and South America. He has been a Fellow with the NATO Committee for Challenges to Modern Society. Bob is also an avid adventure sports enthusiast. While at the University of Wisconsin Bob was active in the Hoofers Outing and Mountaineering Clubs and he developed a passion for whitewater kayaking and canoeing as well as rock climbing and mountaineering. During the past two decades, Bob has focused on his climbing and has completed technical rock climbs and high altitude expeditions throughout the USA, Canada, Europe, South America, and Asia. Bob was born and raised in Waukesha by wonderful parents, Erv and Dorothy Siegrist. Bob is married to Sue Hintz-Siegrist and has a son, Jonathan, and has settled in the mountains in Boulder, Colorado. Bob credits the joy and success in his life to a healthy and energized synergy among family and friends, education and career, and outdoor adventure sports.
