Jean Oettinger

While in high school, Jean was a state Student Council chairperson, in Nationial Honor Society and President of the State Y-Teens (1960-1961). Following graduation, she attended La Crosse State University, graduating in 1965. While in college Jean was elected to the Student Government sophomore year, member of the honor sorority for health and physical education and a competitive tennis player, competing in a Midwest tennis tournament, sophomore, junior and senior years. Jean taught Health and Physical Education at Sheboygan North form 1965-1970 and in Menomonee Falls from 1970-1998. She coached at Sheboygan North from 1970-1984 and at Menomonee Falls HS from 1984-1992. She retired from coaching in 1992 and from teaching Health and Physical Education in 1998. Her coaching accomplishments and honors include two national coaching honors in volleyball and track and nomination twice for consideration for the Wall of Fame at LaCrosse State University. She served on the WIAA Advisory Board for three years and she led teams to numerous championships in Swimming, Track and Field and Volleyball. In her retirement Jean does volunteer work for the American Red Cross and has worked six state and six national disasters from 1998-2001, including ones in Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Wisconsin, North Carolina and five weeks in New York and New Jersey for 9-11. She also volunteered at the Menomonee Falls Optimist Club, local nursing homes and the Community Memorial Hospital. Presently, Jean does volunteer work at The Ranch, the Ruta Hospice and the Waukesha Elks Club.
