Kim Zick

Kim Zick, Class of 1975. Kim began her drumming career in the 10th grade jazz band. At that point, she knew what she would be doing the rest of her life. After graduating from South Campus, Kim pursued her love for music by attending Carroll College and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music where she concentrated on the study of jazz. Following formal education, she began her career as a professional musician, playing with many jazz, blues, and contemporary groups. She also performed with the Waukesha Park Band and the Waukesha Symphony. Kim received critical acclaim when she formed the band MRS. FUN with keyboardist Connie Grauer (Waukesha North High School). To date, MRS. FUN has released ten recordings on their label FunTime Records. MRS. FUN tours extensively throughout the United States and Canada, performing in concert halls, nightclubs, and music festivals. The Wisconsin Area Music Industry has awarded Kim Best Instrumentalist: Percussion and MRS.FUN Best Contemporary Jazz Group. Kim has been featured in several international publications including Modern Drummer, Downbeat, JazzTimes, and Billboard. She has recorded for FunTime, Daemon, EMI-Capitol, Sire, Epic, Chrysalis, Almo, Chameleon, and Island Records. In addition to MRS.FUN, Kim records and performs with other notable musicians, including k.d. lang, Indigo Girls, Jack Grassel, and Janet Planet. Kim conducts workshops and programs for aspiring drummers and continues her most current study of the clave and Cuban drumming.
